I'm going going... back back... to school school

Mar 16

Amongst everything else that is going on in my busy life, I decided to throw school in the mix.

Crazy, I know, what can I say. I like the drama.

So after 2 years at Capella University. I decided to switch my major.

I feel like since I will be retiring in the Air Force, I might as well do something I will enjoy afterwards, right?

I was majoring in Information Techonolgy, specializing in Graphics and Multimedia but lost interest. Then decided to maybe try Buisness, since you can use that for anything. Got bored!

SO here I am at The Art Institute persuing my BS in Photography.

Now this is more like it!

I am kind of late on this blog as I am already almost done with my first quarter, but who't to say I couldn't tell you what I have finished so far.

I took 2 classes in the beginning which was Art History of the Western Civilization (BORING) and Computer Litiracy (which was a waste of my time but had to do becuase it was a requirement.

SO here I am finishing up my third and fourth class. Drawing and Principles of Digital Photography.

Let me say, that these classes were fun. I never knew that I could actually draw. I thought only stick figures is what I was capable of. Who knew. My classes end on April 4. Which I can't wait.

Then I got Color Theory and another Art History class (Boo)

Make-up~To be (with) or not to be (without)

Mar 16

That is the question.

Makeup. I don't know how to use it, yet, I have a drawer full of it. I never really wore makeup just on occasion. And when I say "occasion", that would probably be about 5 times in my life.

Why I don't use makeup? Ummm...don't know. Laziness possibly. I mean there is just so many steps that are involved.

You gotta put the make on and then take the makeup off. That's alot to me.

I like to just get up and go. I think that is why I don't wear makeup.

Although, I have been curious. So curious, that I watched numerous youtube videos to learn how to apply it. Pathetic right?

I got kind of the basics on applying eye shadow, but not really. It just starts to get complicated with the different shades and the different brushes. It's just too much.

I do know how to apply mascara on which I don't mind using. I haven't really used it but have to admit they do make my eyes pop out ;)

I even tried the "natural" makeup look which didn't make sense to me. If you want to look natural, then why the makeup?

I don't know. Maybe I'll never understand.

I could just be the only female in the world that will not understand. But nothing against those who wear makeup. I just wished that makeup looked good on me and then maybe I will wear it more. I just don't feel the need to use it though.

What you see is what you get. Period.

Maybe I'll just stick to my lipgloss.

2 weeks since I started using Philosophy

Mar 16

It has been 2 weeks since I started using Philosphy and so far so good. I love the cleanser. After I use it, my face feels nice and clean. The great thing about it, I don't have to use a toner, it's already in the cleaner. It's an all-in-one, which is great, one less step for me to do when I wash my face.

I can see my skin tone getting more even and I my face looks brighter. Which is a good thing. I don't wear makeup so I want to make sure my skin is nice.

I still don't use the mosturizer that it came with. I really need to go back to Sephora and see if they have other face lotions that I could use. But in the mean time, I have been using the firming lotion, which is wonderful. I ran out of the Booster Serum (which was just a sample) but need to buy the full size becuase I really liked it.

I'll probably do that today.

Day 11 of Insanity

Mar 16

So Okay...it's been a couple of days since I lasted posted about my workouts..I have been busy ok. ;)

I start Day 11 today. Day 11. Can you believe it, I actually made it to Day 11. Almost halfway through the month.
It's been tough though but what I can say is that I have lost 9 lbs since I started! 9 lbs! It was rough. By half through the warmup, I am drenched in sweat! But the time the workout is over, my whole shirt is soaked. Man, this workout is no joke, that's for sure! The workouts, I wouldn't say are getting easier but more like I feel like I am getting stronger.

I can feel my body changing, my abs are getting more defined, my arms are more cut and I just feel good overall. I still got a ways to go to get to my goal weight but I can see it happening I just got to stay focused. Now I am not going to lie, there are times when I just didn't want to workout, but really had to force myself and visualize my goal. Now are there times when I could have pushed myself harder? Yes. But it's okay sometimes. I think with my personality, I can't just gunshot the excercise becuase then I will get bored, so I am taking my time and listening to my body. Either way, I end up really tired at the end of the workout and feel good, so that is all the matters, right?!

Right!

I tried out "Shakeology" for those who don't know it, it's a meal replacement that Beach Body sells. I was able to get a sample from my coach before buying it becuase they are about $120 per 30 day supply (expensive). I just heard nothing but good things, but let me tell you about how I feel about drinks first.

I am very picky on what I drink, I don't like alot of juices, probably the only kind I like is Cranberry juice. I don't like energy drinks, or shakes, or anything that tastes or looks like milk. I can't even really drink alchohol like beer, it has to be either hard liquier where I could take shots so I don't really taste it or real fruity drinks that taste like kool-aid. I tell you, my tastebuds are sensitive!

Anyways. back to the subject, I recieved the sample of Shakeology in the Greenberry flavor and I couldn't get past the first sip, I gagged. I couldn't do it. Nope. Thank goodness it was a sample of I would have wasted $125 dollars.

That reminds me. I need to start taking my multivitamins.

SO instead I bought the P90X Recovery Formula. This was more tolerable. It's an energy drink that you drink within 60 minutes of your workout. It's suppose to give your body all the nutients it needs after an intense workout and help repair and recover your muscles. It tasted alright, it kinda taste like an orange gatorade except it had a little wierd after taste. I had to throw my drink in the freezer to get it super super cold, so I couldn't really taste it and I could just down it. It worked, but not really looking forward to my next dose. I just can't do drinks.

One thing I learned though through this workout when it came to nutrition that I found out about the second day of my workout is that when you are done with a workout, there is a small window right afterwards that your body needs sugar (when you workout, your body uses up all the glycogen in your system) so when you feel weak, grab something sweet, you'll feel better. But make sure it's good sugar, like an apple or some strawberries. I found that out the hard way, when I just almost collapsed and when I was trying to eat my sandwich, I coudn't eat it, my apples were the only thing that was keeping me from puking ;)

This Friday will be my rest day(so much looking forward for that), so I will be taking my measurements again and then on Saturday, will be my second fit test to see my progress. Let's see how that goes!

Well, enough typing, I gotta go start on my 11th day of Insanity.

Hope I don't puke again.

Day Number 2 of INSANITY!~WHEW~

Mar 07

Alright you guys, I just finished my first full workout of Insanity. It was the Plyometric Cardio Circuit.

And I ain't gonna lie, it kicked my bootay! The warmup alone, I was done!
I was watching the others on the dvd and didn't feel too bad when they were dropping like flys. I am really sore from yesterday and really sore today.

It took me like 45 minutes to recover from the workout which makes me think I need to workout after work versus before because right after the workout, I just felt drained, like I just got done running 500 miles. It was that intense. I couldn't eat, I couldn't drink, I was pooped.

I need to work on breathing during the workouts because I start getting dizzy after awhile and once I catch my breath I am fine.

But check this out....I didn't puke this time ;)

This is hard work for sure...but I gotta keep my head up and just work through it. I know I could do it...

Tomorrow's another day....

2 down 58 more to go....*sigh*

A New "Philosophy" on Skin Care

Mar 06

I started up my skin regimen again. I kind of slacked off on it. I need to start taking more care of my skin.

I have used other products before like Juice Beauty, Proactive, Shiseido, and Kiehl's. They were all good, but some reason, my skin still broke out, I haven't found that one line of products yet.

SO here I am embarking on a line called Philosophy. I bought the bundle called "optional makeup" It cost around $79.00.

It came with:
Purity (8 fl oz)- The one step facial cleanser.
Hope in a Jar (2 oz)- Facial moisturizer for all skin types
Hope in a Tube (.5 oz)- High density eye and lip firming cream
When Hope is not Enough (1 fl oz) - Facial firming and lifting serum with glutathione, peptides, vitamin c and e, and soy
Microdelivery Peel (3 packets)

My favorite would be the microdelivery peel. It's a 2 step process that you use about 1 to 2 times a week. It's a great way to exfoliate your skin. The first step is a vitamin C peptide resurfacing crystals that you massage onto your face. It has a warming sensation and it's nice to have that grit to feel the dirt coming up. Then after 60 seconds of massaging the crystals, you proceed to step 2, which is a lactic/salicylic activating gel. Once you put it on your face with the crystals, it foams up to activate the crystals and it just warms your face up. It's really nice. I love doing this part. And then afterwards, my face feels nice and smooth and refreshed.

I would say my least favorite of the items would be The Hope in the Jar moisturizer. It has this funky smell to it that I don't care to much for. I really don't use it, I probably will head over to Sephora's and see what other moisturizers they have.

I took home a sample of the booster serum from the Philosophy line and I love the way it smells. It has this citric smell to it. Very refreshing.

But I have only started using it and it has been a week. My skin has noticeably changed texture. My pimples are still there but fading. But I do say that my tone is getting more even.

I'll keep you updated on this!

Day 1 of the Insanity Workout Program~BANANAS!!

Mar 06

Ok!

After getting my self ready mentally last night, I went to get me a heart rate monitor, which by the way do not come cheap. I ended buying the Polar FT7 which was $125 out the door. I kept telling myself, it's an investment.....

So last night, I went over all the manuals for my heart rate monitor, created my accounts on teambeachbody.com and polarpersonaltrainer.com. I got all my measurement and before pictures uploaded. Whew, never really went this detailed into a program besides logging in my caloric intake.

Based on the nutritional guide that the Insanity workout came with, I am suppose to eat 5 meals a day. (Which I already knew) But what I like about this one, is that it is a booklet broken down to the meal number. So under meal one, has all the recipes you can eat right there. Simple. I like.

I had my peanut butter toast with a banana and a boiled egg for breakfast, which was yummy!

Waited about an hour...

Strapped on my heart monitor and there was no turning back....

Put on my good workout shoes and pressed play...

First episode of the first dvd included an instructional video of how to do the moves, it looked okay, in my head, I was like "I can do it..."

Then for the real deal (Mind you it was just a fitness test, nothing to big, right? ) RIGHT!

Basically the fit test is broken down to 7 exercises. Every 2 weeks, you take the fitness test again to track your progress.

Let me tell you, this program is not called Insanity for no reason. By the 10 minute mark, I was drenched in sweat. It's really intense!

And about halfway through....I PUKED! Can you believe that! I thought I was going to die...but I didn't!

It was crazy, and that was just the fitness test. It was 25 minutes long. The actual workouts are about 40 minutes long...I'm scared...really scared!

But another good thing that I like about this program, is that it is part of the BeachBody Group, so I get some cool online tools. I get a free coach to advise and motivate me, chat rooms, a place where I can track my workouts and progress. It's great. It's like a facebook for fitness...bodybook. ;)

I'm looking forward to tomorrow and seeing how long it will take before I puke again.

See you guys tomorrow!

Here are my results for my first FIT TEST:

Switch Kick: 24
Power Jacks: 34
Power Knees: 55
Power Jumps: 14
Globe Jumps: 6
Suicide Jumps: 8
Push-up Jacks: 8
Low Plank Obliques: 15

Let's see how much I improve in 2 weeks.

Insanity Workout

Mar 05

So, I decided to take the challenge to start losing weight again. I kinda fell off the wagon for a month and need to get back on.

I was working out using my Will EA sport but my body stopped responding to that workout.
So here I am, I am turning to Insanity by BeachBody. I heard a lot of good reviews and looks like its something I can enjoy.
It's looks hard but I think I am up for the challenge.
I decided to document my progress, something I have never done. I need to keep track of my workouts and I think writing it down and blogging about it will keep me motivated.
You know like a job, if people are reading this, I wouldn't want to let them down, so it would keep me in check to make sure I update this blog with my progress, because if I do, I might get "fired", if you get my drift.

Wish me luck on this Intense Journey and hopefully at the end of this, I can feel and see a difference!

Here we go!!
